Every cardis final.
Permanent is a trading card game on Ethereum. Each card's rules and art are written onchain when it's minted, and from then on nobody can patch, nerf or switch it off. Not even us.
Reading a card
Everything you need is printed on the face.
A card is an Ethereum token, and its stats live in the token itself. The face you see is drawn straight from that data, so the card in your hand and the card on the chain can never disagree.
- 1
Ink cost
What it takes to play. You gain one more Ink each turn, up to ten.
- 2
Engraving
Two-color art, stored with the card. It renders the same in every wallet and every client.
- 3
House and rarity
Stone, Salt, Ash, Ink or Iron. The mark on the right is Common, Rare, Mythic or Permanent.
- 4
Rules text
Keywords in bold. The rules are stored onchain next to the stats, so the text on the card is the text the game reads.
- 5
Power and Guard
Power is the damage it deals in a clash. Guard is how much it can take before it falls.
- 6
Number and etches
Its place in the set, and how many ranked wins it has been part of. Etches never reset.
Packs
Five cards, sealed until you tear it.
Every Set I pack holds three Commons, one Rare and one card that could be anything. Try a pull here as often as you like. When you mint, the pull is drawn a block later and the cards land in your wallet.

How it plays
Twenty Life. Five steps a turn.
Two players, thirty-card decks, twenty Life each. Bring the other side to zero. Here is one turn in the middle of a match, Iron and Stone against Ash and Salt.
Etches
Cards remember where they've been.
Every ranked result is signed by both players and recorded on Ethereum. Each card in the winning deck gains an etch, and the etch stays with that card through every sale and every new owner. Some cards read their own etches. Ledger Saint is printed as a 2-power unit and gains one Power for every ten.
| Block | Event | Etches |

Houses
Five ways to win.
Each house has its own keyword and its own way of winning. Most decks pair two of them. Any card from Set I stays playable in every format, forever.
What permanent means
Three things we can't take back.
Most card games keep the right to change your cards after you buy them. We gave that right away in the contract.
No patches, ever.
Card stats and rules are fixed at mint. The game changes the way paper card games do: new sets arrive, old cards stay exactly as printed.
Your deck outlives us.
Cards, decks and ranked results live in public contracts, and the client is open source. If our servers go dark, anyone can run a table and your cards still play.
History stays on the card.
Etches, owners and the block it was minted in are part of the token. A card with three hundred wins looks and plays like one.
Questions
Before you open a pack.
Do I need Ethereum to play?
You need a wallet to own cards, mint packs and play ranked. Casual tables use starter decks and need nothing at all.
Where does the art live?
Each engraving is generated from data stored with the card, then rendered as an image by the contract itself. There is no outside server holding it.
What stops a card from being too strong forever?
New sets. Answers get printed instead of old cards getting weakened. Ranked seasons can also limit which sets are legal, while every card stays playable in Eternal.
Can I trade cards?
Yes. Cards are standard Ethereum tokens, so they trade on any marketplace, and their etches go with them.
How are ranked results recorded?
Both players sign the final state of the match. That signed result is posted to the match contract, which updates ratings and etches every card in the winning deck.
The cards.
Set I has 240 cards across five houses. These are the ones revealed so far, each exactly as it will be minted.
